Moving to RentoKing

If you run the WP Car Rental theme together with Car Rental System (Native WordPress Plugin) by KK_Matt, this page explains what changed on our side and how to bring your data across.

What changed

The WP Car Rental theme has reached end of life

The theme was built around WPBakery and designed to sit on top of a booking plugin we did not develop ourselves. It is no longer sold or maintained, and no further updates are planned. Existing sites will keep running, but they will drift further from current WordPress and PHP versions over time.

We now build our own rental plugin, RentoKing, so the booking engine and the support behind it come from the same place.

To be clear: this is about our theme, not about anyone else’s plugin. Car Rental System is a separate product by a separate author and remains available from its own vendor. We simply no longer build for it.

What replaces it

RentoKing, plus a free theme

RentoKing is free and open source on WordPress.org, with an optional Pro version. Because it is a plugin rather than a theme, it does not tie your design to one vendor.

The recommended setup is the Hello Elementor theme with the free version of Elementor. That combination replaces everything the old premium theme did, at no cost, and it is the exact stack our demo runs on.

Your data

One-click migration

A free add-on, Car Rental System → Rento King, reads your existing Car Rental System data and imports it into RentoKing, so you do not have to re-enter anything by hand. It runs in resumable batches, it is safe to run more than once without creating duplicates, and it has a dry run that shows exactly what will be imported before anything is written.

  1. Back up first

    Take a full backup of the site and the database before you begin. This is not optional.

  2. Install RentoKing

    Install and activate the free plugin from WordPress.org. It runs alongside your existing setup, so nothing breaks at this point.

  3. Install the migration add-on

    In the WordPress dashboard go to Rento King → Add-Ons and install Car Rental System → Rento King from there. It is free, and the screen only appears once RentoKing itself is active.

  4. Run the migration

    Go to Rento King → Import (Car Rental System). The page scans your database and lists every data type it found, with a record count for each. Use Dry run first to preview the import, then start it for real. Vehicles, locations, extras, taxes, price groups, discounts, customers and bookings all come across, and booking totals are recalculated with RentoKing’s own pricing engine.

  5. Check the result

    Review vehicles, rates and upcoming reservations against the old system before you switch the front end over.

  6. Rebuild the front end

    Switch to Hello Elementor and rebuild your pages with Elementor, or import a starter design. Only do this once the data checks out.

Test the whole process on a staging copy before touching a live rental site. Bookings are real money, and a migration is not something to try for the first time in production.
